How to add Metadata to mp3s

You can add metadata such as the artist name and cover art to any mp3 for music players like Spotify to display.

tip

If you don't have mp3 files yet follow the How to Download Songs guide first.

This guide requires a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer

1. Download, install, and open MusicBrainz Picard
2. Drag your mp3 file into the top left pane

3. Select the file you just added and click scan in the top left.

If scan fails, try clicking lookup in the top left. If lookup fails rename the file to the artist's name and the title i.e. laufey just my luck. If it still fails, check to see if it's in MusicBrainz. If it's not, you can manually add the Artist tag and cover art in the bottom pane.

4. Select the updated file in the top right pane and click Save in the top left.
