If Spotify doesn't have the song you want, you can add it through local files.

tip

If you want cover art and other metadata like artist name, follow the How to add Metadata to mp3s guide first.

This guide will show you how to add local files to Spotify Desktop and sync them to your phone first. If you only wish to add them to your phone scroll down to Add Local Files to Mobile

note

Local files are only available in the desktop app, which you can download here. This will not work in the web version.

  1. Place all of your music files into a folder i.e. music
  2. Open Spotify
  3. Click your profile icon in the top right and click Settings
  4. Scroll down to Local Files and switch Show Local Files to on
  5. Under Show songs from switch Downloads to off. If you didn't place your music files in the music folder click Add a source and select your folder.
  6. All local files should now appear in Your Library as a playlist called Local Files.

  1. Make sure your computer and mobile device are both online and connected to the same wifi network.
  2. On Deskop, add all of your local files to a playlist if you haven't already
  3. Open the playlist on your mobile device.
  4. Press the download button
  5. Once all of the songs have finished downloading once, you should be able to play them anytime from your mobile device.

If the files won't download make sure your computer and mobile device are both online and connected to the same wifi network, and try restarting the app on both devices. This process can take anywhere from a couple seconds to a couple minutes.
